Gosh , this week went so fast. It’s getting to be a job to keep up with my blogs. I’m doing Dad’s, mine and ours. I have discovered that you can run out of words. Here is the picture that I posted today on his blog. Thought you might want to see it.

We have had very good response to Dad’s blog. Got a few very nice comments.
I’m glad I wasn’t on the US Airway airplane. Been watching it on TV and when I first heard it , it reminded me of a plane that went down in the Potomac . I was young ,don’t remember what year it was but it was very scary. I think up until that point I had never seen something like that , just heard about planes going down. That on in winter too but there was snow and ice and people being recued.
I’ve also been bad with Project 365. You seem to be much better than I am about picture taking. I have the camera sitting right here where I am but I don’t in pictures. I’ll have to train myself.
Well I’m waiting for the cold to come in. I know that most of the country is cold but we are not……yet. It’s 30* right now. Not bad for Jan. I think it supposed to get really cold tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. Maybe into Saturday. We’ll see.
Daily Mugshot
This website is a lot of fun. The basic concept it to take your mugshot every day. You can do that with your webcam at the website, with an iPhone app (search for daily mugshot in the iTunes store), via e-mail or upload a picture. It is fun to see the different looks and when I was on vacation it was a nice reminder of what we did each day. I tried to take my picture with something very interesting in the background. From all of these shots, a Mugshow is created. See my mugshow at the end of this post. You can customize the number of pictures to show and you can drop out any that you really don’t like. I am considering doing this with each of my kids, but on a weekly basis and keeping the mugshow private. It would be interesting to watch the changes in kids over the years. You can also order a Flipbook which includes 64 pictures and you design the colors and text for $8.99 plus shipping and handling. I am not sure if I will try that feature.
Yes, you could do this yourself with a camera and flickr and create a slideshow, but with the built in webcam on my iMac and the e-mail reminder that I receive every morning, this website makes it a lot easier. You add the iPhone app and there are no excuses for me to forget or not take that daily mugshot. So, go try it out, add me as a favorite and enjoy the show.
Daily Mugshot

I love Facebook. I have found so many friends from grade school, high school, college and my early working years. I’m really bad at keeping in touch by sending snail mail. Mostly because I have 4 kids and I just don’t have the time and by the time they get my letter and respond, I don’t even remember what I asked. With e-mail, I’ve been much better. I can send the same note to 2 friends and keep everyone updated several time a year with 1 e-mail. But with Facebook, I feel in many ways like I’m still close to my friends. I can watch their kids grow up, see what they are up to, play a few games and share my life with them. I love when I see a friend invite or note from someone I haven’t talked to in years. It is really interesting to see where they are and what they are doing now.
I am a scrapbooker, so I love preserving moments in time (sounds like a Hallmark card). But I didn’t realize how many things I had forgotten until I got back in touch with some old friends. They reminded of things, place and people I hadn’t thought about in years. Some I had forgotten for good reasons. I began to wonder if the next generation of kids will keep in touch better. It’s easier to keep people in your facebook and see what they are up to than to try to write a snail mail letter to all your past friends.
Feel free to add me to your Facebook. And what do you think about keeping in touch online? Will our kids do a better job of keeping in touch?

Nap time
Pretty good that Jason is home. Will he be home every Friday or does the day off change?
I’ve been working on Dad’s blog and I can’t figure out how to get Adsense into it. Word Press is not very user friendly, I find. Great for someone who knows more than I do. It frustrates me every time I want to add or change anything.
I guess “The One” is going to speak again today. Not sure why he has a press conference every single day. I’ve never seen a pres-elect act so much like the president before. They usually stay out of the way for most of the time til they are sworn in. I also disagree completely with his tax cut and $3000 for businesses that hire people.
First of all, no business will hire anyone unless someone is buying their product. So no amount of incentive is going to change that basic. Then $500 of a tax cut isn’t going to help me either. It does nothing . Now depending on where this money is coming from ,it could be bad too. If it comes out of Social Security then that is $500 less everyone has in their benefits.
I still think they should give all tax payers a substantial amount of money as a bail out. They could tax it then the government would get money. We would all buy a car. Hey….bailout for the big 3. Many would buy houses…the mortgage crisis solved. And of course we would all go to the mall and spend , spend , spend. It makes sense to me. They keep saying that the biggest problem is that we are not spending. Their idea will no get us to spend. A $500 tax cut sure tempts me to buy something. LOL Idiots!!!! They have no clue about us or how to solve this.
Part of the problem is that we are all scared and “The One ” isn’t helping that either. He keeps saying that it will get worse and take years. Well that sure makes me want to go to the mall and buy something.
Maybe if we could get politics out of this whole thing then it could be fixed.
It’s funny that you are talking about this because I was going to talk about my mood and the weather. I have the same thing. Steph seems to have it too. She is in the same mood that I am in.
I did go out for a walk this morning and am feeling better. I read somewhere that if you look right into the sun for a while that it helps. I did that whenever I could while I was walking. I always have this when we have a number of days in a row with no sun but it is soooo much worse in Jan and Feb. I think it is because there is less daylight during those months than in the summer .
Maybe we should buy one of those lights for this very thing. I forgot what it is called.
I’m going to go for now since The One is about to talk and tell us about how much more money he is going to spend. I think we are at a zillion dollars now.
I never realize how important the weather is to my mood until we’ve had several days of dreary rain and then the sun comes out and my mood lifts and I feel energetic. I’m recovering from an appendectomy, so I though my mood was related to that. I woke up this morning and felt fabulous. I didn’t hit the snooze button 5 times, I didn’t roll over and groan about how I hate mornings. I got up, emptied the dishwasher, got my kids up, got them to school and I have been marking things off my to do list and it is only 9am. I realized that the sun is out today. It’s bitter bitter cold, but the sun is up. I know that is making a huge difference in my mood.
So I have decided to start to track that also. I found this great app for my iPhone called Gratitude! (itunes link). Each day you write down a few things you are greatful for and you can rate the day with 1 -5 stars and add a picture. I’ve been reading that if you spend more time seeing the good, then you will be more positive. I figure it can’t hurt. Since I am doing Project 365, I am adding that daily picture to each day. I’m going to add in there whether my mood was good, bad or ugly and whether the sun was out.
I know I must suffer from Seasonal affective disorder a bit. My Mom and I have talked about this often. We lived most of our lives in Wisconsin and the winters are just cold and long and dreary. Each winter, we would get depressed, gain weight and life just seemed dreary, but then Spring comes and once again you are alive. There are so many festivals and activies all summer long in Wisconsin and we figure it is because everyone celebrates all summer long because we hibernate all winter long. So, I wonder if you live in Miami, are you happier all year long? We visited Miami about a month ago and everyone was just so happy and nice. And it wasn’t just because we were staying in a nice hotel and they had to. We unfortunately spent 2 days at the hospital and they were all nice there too (and they didn’t have to be nice). Everyone had a great attitude and life seemed so layed back. I know when I retire, I am heading to the beach where it’s warm all year. I am really beginning to understand the retirees who head South for the winter.
So, how is your mood affected by the season, weather, sun?
Yuk , it’s Monday after a holiday and very dreary here. Don’t have much to say today. Just have a better Monday than I am.
If I keep baking, only then can I have my cake and eat it too. I’d have to keep up my baking with my eating. We all know that I can out eat my baking any day.
Well Mom, make the marble cake and then send me half of it. LOL!
Why is it that they say “you can’t have your cake and eat it too?” I know that if you eat it then you don’t have it, but I don’t want it to just look at it, I want it to eat. So if I have it, I can eat it and that is what I want. So? Isn’t that a stupid saying?
According to wikipedia, the saying goes back to 1546 and refers to the impossibility of eating your cake and still having it afterwards. It seems I am not the only one confused by the saying. Even George Carlin did a skit on the same thing.
So, can you have your cake and eat it too?
For me the new year really starts when the kids go back to school. This year they had a full 2 weeks off of school. It was such a nice break. We stayed up really late, slept in, ate whenever we felt like it and whatever we wanted, watched movies and did very little cleaning. The house is a disaster and will probably take me a good week to get it back in order. But I think that sometimes that is good. Yeah, the mess is getting to me a little, but it will get picked up. But instead we all really just did what we want to do. I spent a lot of time hanging out on my computer doing stupid stuff. Jason researched cars online and went and looked at some. The kids all played video games, Rockband 2, Legos, watched way too much TV and played nonstop with friends. We ate a lot of McD’s and Subway and junk.
Now, obviously, we can’t live this life always, but I think that is what makes it so nice. We are not all slackers and ordinarily are more on top of things, but letting it all go for 2 weeks to just relax and hang out was fun. In some ways I’m sorry that it’s over, but it will be nice to get back to some routine. I wasn’t even sure what day it was most days or what time.
So, tomorrow, I will somehow muster the energy to get all the kids up early and off to school and then begin my week long journey to get my house and life back in order. I think making this a yearly tradition would be good. A great way to end the year.
How did you spend your winter break?
