You can’t have your cake and eat it too

Well Mom, make the marble cake and then send me half of it. LOL!

Why is it that they say “you can’t have your cake and eat it too?” I know that if you eat it then you don’t have it, but I don’t want it to just look at it, I want it to eat. So if I have it, I can eat it and that is what I want. So? Isn’t that a stupid saying?

According to wikipedia, the saying goes back to 1546 and refers to the impossibility of eating your cake and still having it afterwards. It seems I am not the only one confused by the saying. Even George Carlin did a skit on the same thing.

So, can you have your cake and eat it too?
